Need a favicon from a photo or JPG image? The ICO format is the universal standard for website favicons and Windows application icons. Converting your JPG image to ICO allows you to use any photograph or JPEG graphic as a recognizable icon in browser tabs, bookmarks, and desktop shortcuts.
JPG images are typically much larger than favicon dimensions. A good favicon needs to be readable and recognizable at very small sizes — as small as 16x16 pixels. When converting from JPG, the image is automatically resized to standard favicon dimensions (16x16, 32x32, and 48x48 pixels). For best results, use a JPG image with a simple, bold subject that remains identifiable when scaled down.
While PNG is generally preferred for favicon creation because it supports transparency, JPG works well when your icon does not require a transparent background. JPG favicons will have a solid background color, which can work perfectly for logos and images that already have their own background. If you need transparency in your favicon, consider converting your image to PNG first.
